The Mapping the Medieval Countryside project culminated in a 2^nd Inquisitions post mortem conference at the University of Winchester (previously reported). The publishers Boydell and Brewer have agreed to publish the conference proceedings, to be edited again by Michael Hicks. This second volume showcases the new understandings that have resulted from the various funded projects. There are thirteen papers in all. They focus principally on three areas: the Landscape (Dyer, Mileson) and economy (Holford, Tompkins); ipms outside England (Dryburgh, McKelvie); and the proofs of age (Deller, Clarke, Hicks). Other papers by Garrett, Holford, and Payling illuminate the operation of the system. The book goes to the press in the spring and will be published at the end of the year.
